Inspired by a stunning lunar views through my telescope, I created a 3D terrain artwork that transforms real moon geography into a statement piece. Its intricate craters and ridges catch the light, making it a mesmerizing focal point and a guaranteed conversation starter.
A casual lunch conversation in the summer of 2022 led to an artistic exploration of the Moon. A friend visiting the observatory requested a closer look at the First Quarter Moon’s craters, so we adjusted the telescope and captured striking features of the waxing crescent phase.
Focusing on the Mare Nectaris region, we photographed the Fracastorius crater, where ancient and relatively young craters create a dramatic contrast. The visuals were so compelling that, at my friend’s request, we transformed them into a framed artwork—preserving the moment for him to relive.
Inspired by the complex lunar landscape near Maurolycus, we crafted a composition featuring five focal points. By blending artistic interpretation with natural formations, we created a mesmerizing, immersive design that invites viewers to explore its intricate details.
The client envisioned a complex interplay of craters that would captivate and mesmerize viewers. To achieve this, we drew inspiration from the southern tip of the moon near the Maurolycus crater, a region rich with overlapping layers of ancient and newer craters.
Collaborating closely, we incorporated artistic liberties to craft a dynamic composition with five distinct focal points. These features invite the viewer to lose themselves in the intricate rills, ridges, and mountains of the lunar terrain, creating a design that is as mesmerizing as it is immersive.
