This commissioned artwork combines layers of textured materials to capture the intricate essence of natural landscapes, while seamlessly incorporating a modern, contemporary flair that enhances the living space.

A large 12-foot by 12-foot wall can be a challenge to decorate, as its size offers many possibilities that can quickly overwhelm homeowners.

When I met with this client, they expressed a desire for a striking 3D design element to become the focal point of the entire space. They wanted to blend mid-century modern lines with a piece inspired by the Space Race. Initially, we discussed covering the entire wall with texture, but since this wasn’t a forever home, the client preferred a modular design that could easily be featured in a different space in the future.

The client also envisioned incorporating dynamic lighting—cool ambient light for the summer and warm lighting for the winter—to complement the warm textures in the living area and create the perfect atmosphere year-round.

Project Evolution

I explored various terrain-inspired designs and developed a layout suited for a more vertical orientation, perfect for the diptych format. The individual panels were thoughtfully arranged with an intentional gap between them, maintaining a sense of continuity across both sections.

The diptych was also designed to function cohesively as one unified piece, so considerable attention was given to ensuring that each panel could stand alone as a distinct statement piece while still contributing to the overall design narrative.
